Confession- I am bipolar when it comes to worship. I connect best to God in 2 ways,  corporately- contemplative stillness and quietness, and full throttle typically African-American style gospel praise worship. Is there conflict between these styles? Is one better than the other? No and no. How worship happens is less important than genuine worship simply happening. We are called to orderly worship by Paul, but Christians are called to worship our God, Savior, Creator, Jehovah Jireh, El-Shaddai, Elohim, El Shalom, Living Water, DaySpring, Holy Spirit, Rabboni, Son of God, Son of Man, Messiah,  I AM, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Kadosh Israel, Emmanuel, faithfully!

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name.” [Psalm 100:4]

If these don’t get you reaching for Higher Power, I don’t know what will:

Tonight, I had the too infrequent opportunity to attend a special time of worship. It was like an hour of power. Wooooo hooooo! I found myself physically standing in the same body language and position that I typically preach with. This was not deliberate. It just happened. After I recognized my body language I thought, what if there was not always a clear line between how I ‘worship’ and how I ‘preach’. Perhaps the 2 should mingle more.

“May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer.” [Psalm 19:14]

“Praise the LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heaven! Praise him for his mighty works; praise his unequaled greatness! Praise him with a blast of the ram’s horn; praise him with the lyre and harp! Praise him with the tambourine and dancing; praise him with strings and flutes! Praise him with a clash of cymbals; praise him with loud clanging cymbals. Let everything that breathes sing praises to the LORD! Praise the LORD!” [Psalm 150]

However we worship, whatever style, let us truly worship.
